My name is Jenna Sesing... In this piece of artwork, I decided to focus on the Studio Habit of Mind, “I developed my art making skills.” I decided to make a paper mache` art project with Ashley Lisowe. We decided that we were going to make a pinata out of paper mache`. We started by blowing up a balloon. Then, we found some paper mache` canvas like strips. We used the strips that felt like canvas, and applied water to them. The strips stuck to the outside of the balloon just like glue would. I gained skills because I have only done paper mache` a few times. I also learned if you use a paintbrush, it will smooth out the strips faster and more evenly. In my project I strongly used the Element of Art shape/form. My artwork in globular and three dimensional. I chose to make this project because I was getting board of sitting at the table and drawing and painting, and I wanted to do something more hands on. It was challenging at times for me because the balloon kept falling over while I was trying to apply more strips to the balloon. I did not finish this piece of artwork yet, but I have some in progress pictures.
The art project I am choosing to write about has something to do with bullying. Some people ask what bullying means to me? Bullying should not happen if you ask me. I used the studio habit of mind, "I create original art to communicate a message" in this piece of artwork. I used my own unique idea, and turned this piece of artwork into something I love. The message means the most to me. My artwork intended to say “Live, Love, Laugh... Don’t be a Bully!” I only ran into a few issues while making this art project. My first issue was trying to cut the little hearts and the letters. Also, I couldn’t get the letters to look straight so I had to use a ruler. As far as the letters, I traced the same heart and cut 100+ out even though they are not all on this project. The first step of this project was finding a piece of paper I liked. I ended up picking sky blue. My next step was then cutting out hearts which got a little boring at times, but I just kept going till I finished. Then, I cut out some big white letters and glued them on. The letters spelled something really important to me. “Live, Love, Laugh... Don’t be a Bully!” If you don’t bully others, they shouldn’t bully back is what I think should happen. Sad to say, that is not the way bullying works. I used one main element of art - paint! I used recycled pieces of artwork, bright and dull, and cut hearts out of them for my bully project. The only other supplies I used were glue and scissors. In the end when I finished this project, I really liked how it turned out.During art class, I have so far completed three projects. I like to create my own unique ideas, and I also like to take risks. I tried something where I wasn’t sure it was going to turn out. I tried blending a few colors with each other. I wasn’t sure that it would turn out to look okay, but it did. I really liked the end result of my piece of artwork. I really sticked to the basic materials which was pencil, colored pencils, or sharpie. I attempted shading, but I didn’t like how it turned out, so I erased it and tried something different. I am glad I made that choice. I really am glad I stuck to the basic things, but am now going to advanced into some harder and more difficult things. The three completed projects I have are called, "Monkey See, Monkey Do, " "Jenna's Sports," and "Softball."
Pablo Picasso is an artist who inspires me. Picasso is a person that you can see puts 100% effort into his artwork all the time. This inspires me to put 100% effort into my artwork all the time, and try my best. Another thing Picasso does that inspires me is he does most of his artwork with a face somewhere on the end piece. I really like when something like this happens, I really think it is cool. One last thing that Pablo Picasso does to inspire me is that most of his painting are in color. I really like colorful art, not just black and white all the time. I think when you add color to a painting or drawing, it changes the piece of artwork in a million ways. I connect with Pablo Picasso because I really like how he does all his artwork. I like the fact that he adds color to most of his drawing and doesn’t leave many pieces black and white. Also, I really like the fact that he has a face in most of his end pieces of art. Pablo Picasso doesn’t really use any special materials to create his art. It is usually paint, colored pencils, drawing pencils, or oil pastels. Picasso uses color, form, line, shape, space, and value. He really doesn’t use texture that often. In the end, I really like to look at Pablo Picasso’s artwork.
